Synopsis:
This program aims to introduce a sustainable pulping technology via chemical, mechanical, biological and hybrid approaches. Bio-pulping and bio-bleaching are introduced in order to provide a green pulping process. Raw materials used include, but not limited to non-woody and agro-fibres such as kenaf, oil palm biomass and bamboo. Nanocellulose and specialty paper as emerging products derived from pulping process are the highlight of this program. Examples of specialty papers are water resistant paper, high durability paper and photo-catalytic paper. Pollution control and waste minimization involves the use of black liquor for value-added products.
