SERDANG 16 JAN - AI for the People was launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia to increase public awareness of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Universiti Putra Malaysia has exhibited Digital Twins in Agriculture which gives exposure to twin data from the place of planting to the screen of a computer or mobile phone. Data from the planting site such as the amount of water used, the quality of the soil and fertilizer absorbed and then the height of the tree.

In normal practice the grower will record this data manually for a plant site not for a group of trees.

Through the AI method, sensors are placed in certain positions to record this data to help farmers monitor tree growth, soil conditions and fertilizer and water requirements on a regular basis. The advantage of this method is to guide the grower to immediately adjust the basic needs of trees whose growth is disturbed, this will help better plant management because the grower can make early decisions on the line against the plant when finding a lack of fertilizer or disease attack.

UPM has also offered a free artificial intelligence self-study course online that can be followed by all walks of life. This course helps the general public understand the basic science of artificial intelligence to be better understood. AI methods can be applied in various fields including agriculture.
