Workshop on Sustainable Agricultural Landscapes in Southeast Asia (SALSA) Development Platform of Partnerships (WorDeP SALSA)

15 May, Serdang – Workshop on Sustainable Agricultural Landscapes in Southeast Asia (SALSA) Development Platform of Partnerships (WorDeP SALSA) was held at the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), Universiti Putra Malaysia. This seminar which lasted for 3 days aims to study the scientific scope and scientific framework in detail to define the scope of research for the Sustainable Agricultural Landscapes in Southeast Asia (SALSA) platform. The platform was founded by four entities, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), STIPER Agricultural Institute (INSTIPER), University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), and the French Institute of Agricultural Development (CIRAD).

This seminar was attended by representatives from the three founding institutions namely Dr. Ir. Agus Setyarso, INSTIPER Advisor, Prof. Dr. Nathaniel Bantayan, Vice Chancellor (Research), University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), and Dr. Jean-Marc Roda, Regional Director of CIRAD Southeast Asia. A total of 3 officials representing local government agencies namely the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB), the Malaysian Forestry Research Institute (FRIM), and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). In addition, representatives of other UPM Responsibility Centers also participated in this workshop, namely, Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFOS), Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry and Environment, Borneo Ecoscience Institute (IEB), UPM Bintulu Campus. This three-day seminar focused on discussing the scope and direction of SALSA research. In addition, a visit to the Clarity Crest Sdn Bhd bamboo plantation and Mangrove Swamp Recreation Park Kg. Sijangkang was also held to build a collaboration network through SALSA.
