3D Printer Introduction Workshop

SERDANG, June 2026 – The Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organized the Introduction to 3D Printing Programme on 10 and 11 June 2026 at the Robusta Training Room, Biocomposite Technology Laboratory. The two-day programme received an encouraging response, attracting a total of 20 participants, with 10 participants attending each session. The participants comprised students, researchers, lecturers, and industry representatives.

Throughout the programme, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of 3D printing technology through a combination of theoretical lectures and hands-on practical sessions. They gained comprehensive knowledge of the complete 3D printing workflow, beginning with computer-aided design (CAD), followed by file slicing, importing files into the 3D printer, the printing process, and finishing techniques. In addition, every participant successfully designed and printed their own components, providing them with valuable hands-on experience in operating and understanding the complete 3D printing process.

As a token of appreciation, each participant received a personalized 3D-printed keychain with their name embedded into the design. The souvenir not only served as a memorable keepsake but also showcased the capability of 3D printing technology in producing customized and value-added products.

Overall, the programme received highly positive feedback from all participants. They reported that the training significantly enhanced their understanding of the fundamentals of 3D printer operation and provided them with the confidence to independently perform the entire 3D printing workflow. The programme also successfully promoted the 3D printing services offered by the Biocomposite Technology Laboratory while supporting innovation, creativity, and income-generating initiatives through additive manufacturing technology. Furthermore, the programme aligns with the aspirations of INTROP and Universiti Putra Malaysia to strengthen talent development and enhance technological competencies in line with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0).
