Basic IoT and GIS Data Management System for Forestry Application Course

SERDANG, 27 MAY 2025 – Laboratory of Sustainable Bioresource Management (BIOREM), Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), organized a course entitled Basic IoT and GIS Data Management System for Forestry Application at the Ulugh Berg Computer Room, Institute for Mathematical Research (INSPEM), UPM.

The two-day course, held on 27–28 May 2025, was conducted by Dr. Sheriza Mohd Razali, Research Officer at INTROP, and Mr. Norhasmandy Mohammad, IoT System Management Officer, Surechem Sdn. Bhd.

The main objective of this course was to expose participants to the use of ArcGIS Pro software in conducting in-depth forestry data analysis, weather data mapping, and automatic data processing using ModelBuilder and Python scripts.

The course was attended not only by UPM staff and students but also by students from external institutions and staff from various public and private agencies, including Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Subang Jaya City Council, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and the Elmina Rainforest Knowledge Centre.

A total of 25 participants joined the course, exceeding the initial target of 20 participants. This indicates a strong demand for the course among students and staff from various agencies. It is hoped that similar courses can be organized again in the future and continue to benefit participants in conducting data analysis using ArcGIS software.
