The Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Unity–UPM Sustainability R&D Centre, ONT R&D Sdn. Bhd., and UM Agroforestry (Rimba Ilmu), successfully organised the Hydroponic Technology Entrepreneurship Training Programme on 25 November 2025. The programme gathered 20 participants comprising new entrepreneurs, young graduates, and individuals interested in venturing into modern, technology-driven agriculture. Their diverse backgrounds reflect the growing interest in efficient and sustainable food production methods in Malaysia.
The training aimed to provide comprehensive exposure to the latest hydroponic technologies developed through UPM’s research. Key components of the programme included soilless cultivation techniques, precise plant nutrient management, the use of LED lighting systems for optimal growth, and the application of bio-enhancers to improve crop productivity. The training modules were designed to combine theory, technical demonstrations, and hands-on sessions, ensuring participants gained a holistic understanding of modern hydroponic systems from concept to implementation.
As part of the programme, participants also visited the Unity–UPM Sustainability R&D Centre located at MTDC-UPM. The technical visit offered first-hand insights into smart agriculture innovations and technologies currently being developed through collaborations between UPM researchers and industry partners. This exposure not only bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world application but also opened opportunities for future networking and collaboration in agro-technology.
The programme further strengthened INTROP and UPM’s commitment to nurturing human capital, particularly among youth and technology-driven entrepreneurs. It also enhanced university–industry engagement through knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and innovation. INTROP extends its appreciation to all speakers, facilitators, collaborators, and participants for their meaningful contributions and active involvement throughout the programme.
Through this initiative, it is hoped that more entrepreneurs and young graduates will be inspired to explore the vast potential of sustainable agriculture and contribute to the advancement of hydroponic technology and national food security in the years to come.
