Recent applications of carbon-based composites in Defence industry: A review
Carbon-based composites, including carbon reinforced composites and carbon-matrix composites, in defence technologies have raised a lot of attention due to its significant physical capabilities, superior thermal and mechanical stability, and its eco-friendly nature. Carbon-based composite which incorporating with various carbonaceous materials such as coke, char, black carbon, activated carbon, carbon fibre and other carbon nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibres, graphene and graphite) are the greatest viable option for the development of advanced defence technologies.

The 6th Wood and Biofibre International Conference 2023 (WOBIC 2023) will be held in Hotel Adya, Kuah, Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia on the 23-25 November 2023. This scientific conference was formerly known as the International Conference on Kenaf and Allied Fibers (ICKAF), with the first was held in December 2009. In line with time, ICKAF was later renamed Wood and Biofibre International Conference (WOBIC) in year 2017 to expand its scope by covering other fibres and, ascertains the evolution and significance of the wood and biofibre sector in the global economy. For more than 10 years, WOBIC has been serving as the meeting point for wood and biofibre experts from research, development and the industry. With presentations addressing the latest technologies, the policy framework, and the medium and long-term strategies and potentials, WOBIC is the interface between science, industry and policy makers.

INTROP is a Center of Excellence for Higher Education in the niche area of fiber and tropical wood. As the main organiser of WOBIC, INTROP is recognising the value of a holistic approach to sustainable wood and biofibre production, so that the final product meets the needs of all.  WOBIC 2023 seeks to bring together industry and academia to discuss the latest developments in wood and biofibre, from upstream agricultural-related topic to downstream fibre processing and product advancement as well as the socio-economic impact of these commodities. This conference will be an immediate assistance to those involved in the growing of the wood and biofibre products research and industry including researchers, investor, educators, supplier, and engineers.

The 4th WOBIC, which was held on the 3-5 December 2019 in Sabah was attended by more than 150 participants from various educational institutions, research institutions, government and non-government agencies. While, the 5th WOBIC was held on the 23-24 November 2021 as a hybrid conference (due to COVID restrictions) with more than 100 papers were presented virtually.

And this year, for the WOBIC 2023, we are now back for an onsite scientific conference! Join us in person in WOBIC 2023 for the best opportunity to reconnect with so many colleagues from near and far.
