(1) Phytoresources, Selection and Plantation

SYNOPSIS
The program is to screen and identify plants with potential for biocomposites industry and commercialization of new plants through the development of sustainable plantation systems. The main focus is to work on research related to the screening, identification and characterization of forest products such as Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus).
INTRODUCTION
Increasing concerns over global warming is caused by the change of land uses which has led to the establishment of forest plantations and the promotion of the use of non-forest and timber (NFTs) resources. The request for the use of NFTs products such as Kenaf, bamboo and rattan, or the NFTs products has contributed to the development of an action plan of timber replacement. The main objective is to create awareness about the importance of using natural fibers in addition to fulfill the growing of global demand.
Plantation developments using genetically improved seeds for wood and non-wood bioresources is through the selection of various trees and plants for fast growth and generate higher productivity. This method can improve the economy such as production of high-value research; such as enzymes for industrial and agricultural.
(2) Tropical Rainforest Ecosystem Services

SYNOPSIS
The programme includes forest ecosystem research; carbon sequestration, sustainable bioresource production, biodiversity and forest stand dynamics studies. Natural resources should be sustainably managed for long-term usage for improvement of "Quality of Human Life". Our research teams are capable to better respond to global issues related to pollution and forest conservation. The ecotourism and related services is the core of research in the programme.
INTRODUCTION
Current demands for environmental conservation towards a green lifestyle have been demanded and concern. Therefore, a basic understanding of ecosystem processes, sustainable forest management system in the natural forest still needs to be improved. Research methods include forest carbon sequestration, sustainable bioresources production, biodiversity and forest stand dynamics and function of native plant species in urban areas are becoming important. Natural resources should be managed in a sustainable manner with a focus towards sustainable use of resources, which in turn guarantees the quality of human life. This program focuses on eco-tourism products and services. Ecotourism services include environmental interpretation, study of the human dimensions (social psychology), parks and recreation, and also user management. Ecotourism resource also includes assessing the canopy interpretation, function of flora and fauna, as well as exploratory of the unique scenic features. Therefore, full attention should be given to research that form the basis for a better understanding and application of various ecosystem processes. Next it will encourage the sustainable use of resources and sustainable for the long term use.
