SERDANG, 6 July 2026 – The Occupational Safety and Health Committee of the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organised the Occupational First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training at INTROP, with the participation of all institute staff.
The training was conducted to enhance awareness, knowledge and essential skills in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). The program's goal was to provide INTROP employees the tools they needed to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively before medical help arrived.
Throughout the programme, participants attended both theoretical and practical sessions. The training began with an introduction to the fundamentals of first aid, followed by hands-on CPR training for adults, children and infants. Additionally, the right recovery position for emergency patients, unique considerations when utilizing the device, and how to handle and operate an AED were all explained to the participants.
Participants learned how to handle choking situations involving adults, kids, and babies during the afternoon session. Additionally, they were given hands-on training in managing common injuries, such as burn injuries, arm and shoulder fractures, and external wounds. Participants were able to put the knowledge and abilities they had learned throughout the training to use as the program came to a close with hands-on demonstrations and simulation exercises.
Overall, the programme received highly positive feedback from INTROP staff. Participants reported increased confidence and competence in providing immediate emergency assistance, particularly in performing CPR and operating an AED correctly. The INTROP Occupational Safety and Health Committee's dedication to promoting a robust workplace safety culture and improving employee readiness for emergency scenarios is demonstrated by the training's successful execution. This program is consistent with Universiti Putra Malaysia's dedication to establishing a community-friendly, safe, and healthy workplace.
