School Holiday Program: 3D printer

SELANGOR, 6 February 2025 – The Biocomposite Technology Laboratory at the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP) successfully organized the School Holiday Program: 3D Printer, involving 26 participants from Forms 1 to 5.

This program aims to provide participants with early exposure to 3D printing technology and its applications in various fields. The objectives of this program were to enhance participants' creativity and innovation in technology while introducing them to the 3D printing process, introduce 3D printing software and design, offer hands-on training in designing for 3D printing, and equip participants with practical skills in printing their designs using available 3D printers.

Various engaging activities took place throughout the program, including an introduction to 3D printers and the materials used. Participants gained fundamental insights into different types of 3D printers, the technology behind them, and materials such as PLA and ABS filaments.

Additionally, participants were introduced to Tinkercad software, allowing them to design their own objects. They also received training on slicer software, including Creality, Ultimaker Cura, and PrusaSlicer, to prepare their designs for printing. Participants had the opportunity to create and print their own 3D models, enabling them to understand the entire process from design to final output. The program concluded with a reflection session and the distribution of custom 3D-printed keychains as souvenirs for all participants, marking their participation in the program.

Additionally, each participant received a certificate of participation as recognition of their commitment and involvement. With the success of this program, INTROP aims to organize more initiatives like this in the future, fostering participants’ interest in technology and innovation while equipping them with relevant skills for the modern world.
