The Strategic Blue Carbon Unit, INTROP with collaboration from New Sarawak Tribune and Institute of Ecosystem Science Borneo held a seminar entitled ‘Webinar on Visualising Blue Carbon Emissions and Sequestration' via Zoom on 13^h December 2023.

There are two types of audiences for data visualisation; pull audience and push audience. In terms of pull audience, the audience has prior questions on the data of their own while push audience has no prior questions of their own.

Two speakers, experts on the subject matter, namely Mr. Antony Turner, chief executive officer of Real World Visuals, a company based in United Kingdom and its creative director, Dr Adam Nieman shared their valuable experience and knowledge for participants to have a better understanding of science through engaging data visualisation. Focussing on blue carbon and natural sequestration, in data visualisation, the approach of pulling the audience involves allowing them to see the referenced reality through abstract graphics, fostering a deeper connection with the underlying data. 

A total of 131 participants from universities, research institutions, government, private sector, and NGOs from eight countries (Japan, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia) interested to learn more about data visualisation for blue carbon emissions and sequestration attended the webinar moderated by Dr. Waseem Razzaq Khan, Research Associate of INTROP, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
