This program focuses on new technologies in the effort to transform lignocellulose materials into biopolymers and biochemistry as well as other derivatives. Research includes biodegradable plastics from phytochemicals, bio adhesives from tree bark, bio coating, cellulose modifications and more.
In addition, this program focuses on the economic approach of bio pulping and bioleaching processes for non-wood and agricultural waste involving chemical modification of fibers. The development of paper-based products such as packaging paper is also studied. Pollution control studies in pulp and paper production, biorefinery process, waste minimization, fuel recovery, toxic waste management and water treatment are also emphasized.
